Iceland had been on my wish list for years, and this three-night trip - a surprise birthday present - couldn’t have been more perfect. Elaine helped plan every detail, striking just the right balance between jam-packed adventure and relaxed exploring.
We went in December, and yes - it was freezing! But wrapped up in plenty of layers, we got to experience Iceland at its most magical. Snow-covered landscapes, festive lights in Reykjavik, and cosy hot chocolates... it felt like stepping into a winter postcard.

Our base was the Skuggi Hotel, a stylish, modern spot with interiors in black and grey (Skuggi means “shade” in Icelandic, which suited the vibe perfectly). The staff were friendly, breakfast had loads of choice, and the bar’s hot chocolate was a particular highlight!
Elaine had pre-booked all our excursions in advance, which made everything completely stress-free - all we had to do was turn up and enjoy.
The highlights included:
Northern Lights by Jeep

A nighttime adventure out of the city in search of the Aurora. Our guides knew exactly where to go, moving between locations to maximise our chances. And when the lights finally appeared, it was honestly one of the most magical moments I’ve ever experienced.
Golden Circle Tour
A full day exploring Iceland’s iconic sights - the powerful Gulfoss Waterfall, the dramatic landscapes of Thingvellir National Park, and the famous Geysirs. Everywhere we stopped offered something breathtaking.
Blue Lagoon
Sadly, this was cancelled due to heavy snow - Iceland’s first big snowfall of the season. Disappointing, but it gives me the perfect reason to return.
Back in Reykjavik, we loved wandering the snowy streets, especially with the city lit up for Christmas. There was even an outdoor ice rink!

We found two brilliant food halls, both packed with options - from Icelandic fish dishes to global street food. Great if you fancy trying something different.
Getting around was really easy. Each hotel has an assigned bus stop used by the various tour operators, so joining excursions is straightforward. The local people were so welcoming and genuinely proud to share their country, which made it even more enjoyable.
A few tips if you’re planning your own Iceland adventure:
Prepare for the cold (take lots of layers!)
Expect some time on coaches for the excursions - Iceland’s natural wonders are well worth the drive
Book key experiences in advance, especially during busy seasons
This was my first time visiting Iceland, but definitely not the last. Despite how much we packed in, I came home feeling like I’d had a proper break too - and that’s all down to Elaine’s help.
Nothing ever feels like too much trouble with her. She answers every question, gives honest advice, and you can really tell she’s been doing this for a long time.
Thank you, Elaine, for such a brilliant birthday getaway!
Lauren
